Guus is a trusted and experienced advisor to both private and listed companies on corporate law and corporate governance matters. His practice includes advising on board governance, shareholder structures, public takeovers, joint ventures, and related-party transactions.
Guus also advises listed companies, including management boards and supervisory boards, on governance in public bid situations. In this context, he also advises listed companies on defense strategies against unsolicited bids and activist shareholders.

As part of his practice, Guus regularly represents private and listed companies, as well as strategic shareholders, management boards and supervisory boards, in legal proceedings before the civil courts, particularly before the Enterprise Chamber of the Court of Appeal at Amsterdam, and in arbitral proceedings.

Guus obtained his law degree from the University of Amsterdam in 1984 and earned a Ph.D. from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2013 with a dissertation on the supervision of a listed target company by the supervisory board in public bid situations. In 2023, he published a monograph on board strategy and policy for bidders and target companies in the context of unsolicited public bids, as part of the academic series of the Law Institute of Nijmegen University.
In addition to his native Dutch, Guus is fluent in English, French, German, and Italian.
